Benitez: Shelvey miss cost Newcastle three points against Bournemouth

What's interesting about Bournemouth and Newcastle now is that they both would appear to be clear of the relegation zone just looking at the table, sitting at 10th and 13th, respectively. Bournemouth have experienced dizzying highs and crushing lows in recent matches.

Newcastle have slipped down two places to 15th after results elsewhere on Saturday, but are unbeaten in their last four Premier League outings.

Alan Shearer has expressed his disappointment to Newcastle United's draw at Bournemouth today.

"I think it's a pity because the team was doing well and had chances to score the third goal but that is football and the Premier League", he told Sky Sports.

Victory at the Vitality Stadium would have moved Newcastle level on points with their hosts, but Rafael Benitez's men will continue to look anxiously over their shoulders at the bottom three following their late capitulation.

Having been very timid in the first half, Bournemouth were much better after the break, with King again the epicentre of most of their good work.

Tyrone Mings remains a long-term absentee with a back injury. They'll be looking to replicate that and see the likes of Jonjo Shelvey get into form when they could seriously use some points for peace of mind within the club.

Islam Slimani has been training in Algeria in a bid to overcome a thigh injury in time for Saturday's clash.
