Security forces neutralise 1 terrorist in Bandipora

Indian security forces on Thursday killed a suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba militant in an encounter in Bandipora district's Hajin region in Jammu and Kashmir, the police said.

Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in village Shakurdin in the morning following information about presence of militants there, a police official said.

As they closed in on the hiding militants, the latter fired at the security forces triggering the encounter, a police officer said. As the cordon was tightened, militants opened fire and one militant was killed in the gun fight.

The body of the militant was recovered along with an AK 47 from the encounter site, reports said.

The encounter came two days after a Pakistani militant was killed in a similar encounter in Hajin area.

Meanwhile, clashes erupted between protesters and security forces to foil the anti terrorist operation. Police said in a statement that action would be initiated against those "who led the protest and instigated the public".

Sources claimed that more terrorists are believed to be holed up in the area.
