Kelly Ripa Defends Ryan Seacrest During 'Live with Kelly and Ryan'

Months after his former stylist first accused Ryan Seacrest of sexual abuse and harassment, the 43-year-old TV personality appeared to be handling business as usual on E!'s Live from the Red Carpet Oscars special Sunday night, among some of Hollywood's biggest names.

In November of previous year, Hardy sent a legal letter to the higher ups at the E! network, letting the company know of Seacrest's alleged crimes towards her. The Feb. 26 story included specifics of Hardy's allegations against Seacrest, which included him rubbing up against her, groping her, and engaging in a pattern of sexual misconduct. He said earlier this week that, as a host, he wouldn't mention the movements condemning hostile workplaces and supporting women's equality, because "this show is not about reliving people's sexual assaults".

Speaking about Ryan's upcoming appearance at the Oscars red carpet, where he'll be working for E!, Kelly told him: "I can not wait to see you there".

In December, then-E! host Catt Sadler announced she was leaving the network, largely because she was only being paid half the salary of her male co-star and her requests for a raise were denied once she discovered that. "It's about there being an accusation that's alive, and until they sort of out, it's really on E! I don't think any smart person would", another PR source told the outlet. "We shouldn't have to make those choices of, 'Do we or don't we?'" As the accusations bloomed into a full-blown controversy, Ryan released a statement denying the claims and explaining that an investigation had already exonerated him.

When asked about the situation by Howard Stern, Jennifer Lawrence waffled about whether she plans to stop and speak with him on the carpet.

The network chose to keep Seacrest as the host of the red carpet special, to which Hardy responded by standing by her story. News and shouldn't be on us.... "I can not wait to see you there", the 47-year-old shared. "News is of this issue - and of women".

Seacrest's role in E!'s Oscars coverage, however, has still come under fire. More importantly, he said that having Seacrest on the red carpet at this point in a national reckoning over sexual misconduct is highly insensitive, disrespectful and "tone-deaf".
