Oscars: Allison Janney Wins First Academy Award for 'I, Tonya'

The former West Wing star has had an incredible awards season sweep, having also won best supporting actress awards at the Golden Globes, Critics' Choice Awards, and SAG Awards.

Allison Janney even thanked the bird.

After the raucous laughs died down, she said there could be "nothing further from the truth". Janney added. "And Patti LuPone is going to be on our show, so I get to be with her tomorrow".

The ear-nibbling parakeet named Little Man "elevated my work", Janney said. "I thought this is exactly the kind of humor that is flawless for this movie".

"I love the kinds of women's roles that I get to play".

"This is for Hal", she said. You are always in my heart.

She won her seventh Emmy in 2015 - again for Mom - to tie with Edward Asner and Mary Tyler Moore for second most by a performer, behind Cloris Leachman and Julia Louis-Dreyfus on eight. "My feet are bleeding", she deadpanned.

Allison Janney dedicated her Oscars win to her late brother, who took his own life in 2011. "I am going right back to work and I am so happy to have a job to go to, because this could go to your head", Janney said. "I'm going to have a big crash-down after this so I'm happy that I have "Mom" and the people at "Mom" to lift me up".

Oscar-winning actress Allison Janney is pictured in the press room of the 90th Annual Academy Awards Governors Ball at Hollywood & Highland Center on March 4, 2018 in Hollywood, California. None of us thought it would go on - not because it wasn't brilliant but because it was about politics and who wants to watch a show about politics? "The first time I met her, she said, 'My god!"

Janney previously opened up about her younger brother's struggles with drug and alcohol addiction, which inspired her to take the role of recovering addict Bonnie on the sitcom Mom.

"I think I'm going to give him a Rolex".
