Rockets Win Streak Hits 15 Games With Win Over Celtics

In their first matchup, the Rockets got up big - 26 to be exact - but the Celtics fought back with their defense. Despite poor night from the floor by both of their superstars, the Rockets found a way to overcome the best defense in the National Basketball Association to win on the road.

In this episode, Sam Vecenie and Jared Weiss chat about the terrific Celtics-Rockets game on Saturday night.

Russell Westbrook had 30 points, 11 rebounds and six assists, but it was CJ McCollum's 28 points and eight rebounds which led the Trail Blazers to a 108-100 win over OKC. The Celtics will inevitably have consistency issues, and any time they can go to their bench to help stabilize things, the starting unit is going to be a lot more comfortable and effective. Neither of the two was particularly efficient shooting on this night.

Houston's Gordon made one of two free throws to make it 123-120 with 2.3 seconds remaining.

Meanwhile, Los Angeles Lakers' Lonzo Ball recorded a career-best with six three-pointers against the San Antonio Spurs.

James Harden was 6-18 from the floor and only 3-12 from downtown, but he had 10 assists and 7 rebounds while hitting 11 of his 13 free throws.

The three main contributors off the bench have been Marcus Morris, Marcus Smart and Terry Rozier. He's an accomplished post scorer, but isn't the fastest guy, so the matchup with the running Rockets would seem not to favor him. During his first six games with the C's, he scored a total of 34 points on 12-of-29 shooting, while producing a cumulative minus-24 rating.

We can all agree that #James Harden is having an absolutely fantastic season and that he is leading Houston Rockets to the playoffs this year. Eric Gordon led the way with 29 points with seven made 3-pointers.

Isaiah Thomas added 21 points for the Lakers off the bench while Ball and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope scored 18 each. Clint Capela was the only player on either team in double-digit rebounding, with 17.

Despite being in position to knock off the NBA's hottest team on Saturday, the Celtics understood that just being close to pulling off the feat won't be enough if they want to accomplish what they hope to once the postseason rolls around.

They discuss Danny Ainge's draft history, how the nine-man rotation from the Rockets game is a nice preview for the Celtics' playoff look and even talked a little Oscars stuff off the top. Al Horford answered with a hook shot, but after Harden missed a triple, Tucker stole the rebound from Rozier, and Chris Paul found Trevor Ariza for a game-tying trey. They spent most of the last few seasons in the bottom third of the league in turnovers thanks, in part, to their frenetic style of play on offense.

But their winning streak since the All-Star break was snapped at four games when Marcus Smart's three-point heave bounced off the rim at the buzzer. Irving and the Celtics slowly chipped away at the Rockets lead by playing solid defense. They can win it with their defense and they can compete with their offense.
