Man arrested for 'stealing Frances McDormand's Oscar'

He faced a charge of felony grand theft after the LAPD arrested him Sunday night. Brookman said Bryant, 47, will vigorously fight the case.

"I think this is what Chloe Kim must have felt like after doing back to back 1080s in the Olympic half pipe", she said. Bryant is accused of stealing Frances McDormand's best actress Oscar statuette during the Governors Ball after party on Sunday. His attorney Daniel Brookman had argued that the previous bail amount of $20,000 was unnecessary, calling the Oscar situation a momentary aberration.

Then there is the question of the value of an Oscar.

Despite this, authorities are taking the incident more seriously.

The criminal complaint filed against Bryant lists both the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and McDormand as victims of the theft.

"I'm talking about empowering people", he said. "The circumstances of the incident aren't that favorable to Mr. Bryant".

McDormand had just won her award for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri when she took it to be engraved and left it on a table while she mingled.

Frances McDormand's stolen Oscar is back where it belongs.

Naomi Levy, a rabbi who came to court to support Bryant, said he is part of her spiritual congregation and never misses a meeting.

Bryant also posted a video on social media of himself at the event holding an Oscar statuette and telling other guests he was a victor. "Sup babies, look, my team got this tonight". Let's applaud the people who are using their privilege to fight the good fight.

Bryant was due to be arraigned in a downtown Los Angeles courtroom Wednesday. The photographer followed Bryant, took the trophy and alerted security, which detained the alleged thief until police arrived to arrest him. Rosario Herrera, a police spokeswoman, said that Bryant had a ticket for the event. But hours after receiving her award, she found it missing at the Governor's ball party. Presumably Bryant did not make it to Jimmy Kimmel's party. The Associated Press (and other media on the scene) caught Bryant holding the Oscar. He was photographed holding an Oscar.
