PM Modi takes charge of Aviation Ministry after Ashok Gajapati Raju resigns

Suresh Prabhu was already Union minister for Commerce and Industry int eh Prime Minister Narendra Modi's union cabinet.

Today, the Rashtrapati Bhavan confirmed that Prabhu has been given the additional charge of the aviation portfolio.

Mumbai: Commerce and industries minister Suresh Prabhu was on Saturday given the additional charge of the civil aviation ministry, a day after the president accepted the resignation of Ashok Gajapathi Raju, the president of India's handle on micro blogging site Twitter said. He was heading the Civil Aviation ministry. The decision has come amid the process of disinvestment of Air India and its subsidiaries. However, he admitted that clock can't be reversed back and hence in order to move forward, he demanded the Union Government to fulfill its promises made to Andhra Pradesh including Special Category Status.

Although the TDP members pulled out of the Modi government, they continue to be a part of the NDA. After a year ago cabinet reshuffle, Prabhu was appointed as the Commerce and Industry Minister. Prabhu's reassignment (Piyush Goyal took over the Railways Ministry duringt the Cabinet reshuffle) followed a number of high-profile accidents on the Indian Railways.

According to the minister, a dedicated team would be established in Invest India for hand-holding French companies to invest and succeed in this country.
