Lack of quality wins keeps Huskers out of NCAA Tournament

The Cougars (24-10) knew they wouldn't make it to the NCAA Tournament after they lost 74-54 to No. 6 Gonzaga in the West Coast Conference championship game. Most metrics have Nebraska not just out of the field, but well out. The only two who didn't both came from the Pac-12 when Washington and OR both missed out in 2012. "It's just, where are we going, what's our seed, and start our preparation".

A win over the Jayhawks - the Big 12 champions who now rank No. 9 in the country - would have done wonders for Nebraska's RPI and its postseason resume.

All four No. 1 seeds were serious contenders to make the NCAA tournament before their respective bubbles popped on Selection Sunday, but they each faltered in either the first or second round of the 2017 NIT.

Since the NCAA Tournament expanded to 64 teams in 1985, 304 of 306 teams to win at least 13 league games in a power conference through the 2016-17 season made the tournament.

This is the first time since the 1999-2000 season that BYU has missed the NCAA Tournament for three straight seasons. Instead, the Huskers left New York City with a 77-58 loss to MI. "Hoping a certain number of teams lose, hoping other people get wins".

Per the Bracket Matrix, Middle Tennessee is projected as one of the last at-large teams in the NCAA tournament field by a few sources, including Joe Lunardi of ESPN.

As if all that wasn't bad enough, of Nebraska's 22 victories, only six came against teams with overall winning records (Boston College, UTSA, Michigan, Maryland, Indiana, and Penn State).

Washington is 8-1 lifetime against Boise State, but the teams haven't played in 19 years. The team practiced Monday, Wednesday and Friday and did shooting work Tuesday, including a free throw contest between the players and coaches.

But there's nothing like getting ready for a game.

The NIT does not have predetermined sites, so the first three rounds are hosted by schools in the tournament, and the second and third round games are determined based on the winners of the first round. Fans can live-stream the bracket reveal via WatchESPN.
