1 killed, 20 injured in blast in Pakistan's Lahore

The blast occurred at a police checkpoint established to guard the Tableeghi Jamat headquarters in Raiwand, located in the outskirts of Lahore city, according to local Dunya News.

At least nine policemen, including an officer, were among the wounded, Ashraf said.

Police officials stated that it could be a cylinder explosion but actual nature of the blast is still unknown. A suicide bomber targeted police camp at Raiwind city, 30 km away from Lahore. Police say they were investigating.

He said the Rescue ambulances have shifted the injured to the Sharif medical complex and other nearby hospitals. However, the impact and sound of the blast suggest it was a terrorist attack.

The Pakistani Taliban leadership have fled to neighbouring Afghanistan from where Islamabad alleges they plan and execute terrorist attacks inside Pakistan. Khan has asked the CCPO Lahore and all RPOs and DPOs to strengthen security in their respective regions and districts. He also directed to intensify search, sweep, combing and intelligence operations as well as beefing up security at sensitive installations, educational institutes, places of worship and markets.

Security has been tightened following the attack and all exit and entry points to the vicinity have been secured.

Lahore and its surroundings have seen many bomb and suicide attacks in recent years, killing scores.

At least 45 people were injured in an explosion in a fruit truck stationed in a parking lot on Band Road in August past year.

Turkey on Thursday condemned a suicide bombing in Pakistan that left nine people dead and 20 injured. However, around 60 people lost their lives in terrorist attacks past year at a parking lot on the Band Road, Ferozepur Road, Bedian Road, and The Mall Road.
