Trump's Personal Lawyer Is Now Calling For End To Russia Probe

McCabe, who played a key role in the FBI probes of Hillary Clinton and Russian interference in the 2016 USA election, said he believed he was sacked for corroborating former FBI Director James Comey's claim that President Donald Trump had tried to pressure Comey into killing the Russian investigation.

Fired FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe kept memos of his conversations with President Trump and what happened during the firing of former FBI Director James Comey, CBS News' Paula Reid reports. He said McCabe and his lawyers were given limited access to the inspector general's draft report late last month, saw a final report and evidence a week ago and were "receiving relevant exculpatory evidence as recently as two days ago".

The disclosure on Saturday came hours after Mr Trump called Mr McCabe's firing by Mr Sessions a "great day for democracy".

McCabe said in a statement Friday night that he had been "singled out" and targeted because of the events he witnessed after Trump fired Comey.

"While McCabe lashed out at Trump in his statement", Turley said, "he may have just given Trump the long-sought cover to use his pardon power; if McCabe is not charged, Trump could cite that decision as the basis for pardoning Flynn, as a matter of equity and fairness". Trump tweeted in praise of Sessions' announcement Friday night, asserting without elaboration that McCabe "knew all about the lies and corruption going on at the highest levels off the Federal Bureau of Investigation!"

Responding to the president, Brennan, who led the Central Intelligence Agency under the Obama administration, tweeted: "When the full extent of your venality, moral turpitude, and political corruption becomes known, you will take your rightful place as a disgraced demagogue in the dustbin of history".

The firing comes after an internal FBI investigation into its former deputy leader, but Mr McCabe has claimed the Trump administration has made an "unprecedented effort" to destroy his reputation.

"Given Trump's ill-advised inclination to fire Mueller in the past, these allegations of leaks and misrepresentations inside the FBI could rekindle Trump's interest in forcing an end to the investigation that has dogged his administration for a year", he opined.

Mueller is investigating whether Trump's actions, including Comey's ouster, constitute obstruction of justice.

Steinbach said McCabe had "become a convenient scapegoat so that narrow political objectives can be achieved".

"It is part of this Administration's ongoing war on the FBI and the efforts of the Special Counsel investigation, which continue to this day".

McCabe also confirmed that the President asked him who he voted for in the 2016 election, which was reported back in January and which Trump denied.

The plan today at WH and Trump legal team was: Don't step on the McCabe story....don't step on the McCabe story....don't step....duh! dadgummit!

Trump stepped up the pressure on Mueller Saturday, tweeting that there was no collusion between Russian Federation and the Trump campaign, adding that many people are now finding out that "there was tremendous leaking, lying and corruption at the highest levels of the FBI, Justice & State".

McCabe defended his integrity after the news broke, telling The New York Times: "The idea that I was dishonest is just wrong".

This person says the memos are similar to the ones maintained by former FBI Director James Comey, who Trump fired last May.
