Mohamed Salah could beat Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo to the 2018 Ballon d'Or if he maintains his standards at Liverpool and enjoys a productive World Cup, says Harry Kewell.

Spanish and European champions Madrid have emerged as a suitor for Salah following his stunning four-goal haul in Saturday's 5-0 demolition of Watford in the Premier League, while Barcelona have also been linked with the Egypt worldwide forward.

"There are other players out there that have proved themselves over two or three years who might be closer to going to those types of clubs". The same applies to Germany, where tactics are concerned, and Italian club football has recently caught up.

"I have the self-confidence to say that my qualities are sufficient to play in a very big club next season", he told the newspaper.

"Incidentally, the same applies to France, this league has now established itself as one of the best in Europe". I have trained hard but on Saturday I noticed that I need rhythm for the way I want to play.

Juventus are known admirers of Can but with Liverpool still battling to secure a top four finish in the Premier League and remain determined to win the Champions League, talk of his future has been placed on hold until the summer.

However, Can insisted that the opportunity to win a title remains foremost in his mind.

Barcelona probably won't be able to splash the cash again having spent so much to sign Coutinho and Ousmane Dembélé in recent months, but Real Madrid like to sign the next big thing in world football every summer and at this moment in time, that man is Salah. Pulling out of training and coming back to Anfield could be a blessing in disguise and it might be no more than precautionary.

Despite the injury, Can still reported as normal for global duty with Germany for their friendlies against Spain and Brazil.
