Dec releases statement about the fate of Saturday Night Takeaway

Dec Donnelly has confirmed that Saturday Night Takeaway will continue without Ant, and that he will see this series out.

Now friends of Ant claim that his arrest on Sunday for drink driving may have been caused by the breakdown of his marriage.

Just weeks after the pair celebrated the 100th episode of their show Saturday Night Takeaway with a 35 per cent share of the audience making it the most-watched show of the night has come the arrest and *that* video of a dazed Ant stepping out from his black Mini after a collision.

ITV has confirmed that Dec will be back in the studio alone helping audience members win the ads in a week's time, and while he might not want Ant replaced with another co-host, will he have a guest host helping him along for some of the segments?

Ant has now been released from police custody but the incident will no doubt have a knock-on effect on Saturday Night Takeaway and the TV star's other presenting gigs.

It comes after Dec issued a statement on the Ant and Dec Twitter account, telling their 6.81 million followers: "Whilst I never thought I'd be in this position, after much discussion and careful consideration we've decided that the remaining two shows of this series of Saturday Night Takeaway will go ahead".

A statement from the show's parent station, ITV, read: "ITV has taken a joint decision with Ant and Dec's team not to broadcast Saturday Night Takeaway this weekend".

Dec has received many messages of support since announcing the news.

Dec Donnelly will host the remaining two shows of this series without Ant McPartlin for the first time.

After a two-month stint to address his demons, Ant managed to go on to host last year's series of I'm A Celebrity. Auditions for the upcoming series were already filmed earlier in the year.

A third chimed in: "Surely it's only a matter of time before Dec decides enough is enough and chooses to go it alone".

McPartlin was in rehab a year ago after struggling with an addiction to painkillers following a 2015 knee operation.

Dec - who looked downcast as he was pictured out in Chiswick today with his wife Ali Astall - added: "We've been incredibly fortunate to have enjoyed such a remarkable time".

"I think Dec should carry on with someone else if necessary".

"[Dec is] devastated for his mate - he is anxious that the Ant and Dec brand is being irreparably damaged - it's the second time round". Get Me Out Of Here! "He's a very successful guy in his own right as well".
