Some Toys R Us stores may be worthless, Deutsche Bank says

Toys "R" Us struggled in recent years from growing competition from online retail, as well as companies such as Walmart and Target, which sold toys along with groceries and other items.

Meanwhile, Elaina is hoping her mom comes back so this Toys "R" Us kid can add to her toy collection before the chain shuts its doors for the final time. And while Toys R Us and Babies R Us will continue accept gift card and e-gift cards for another 30 days, von Walter says they will no longer accept coupons.

Toys R Us to go BUST?

The announcement last week that Toys R Us would be lost generated an enormous outpouring of nostalgia. However, as headlines increased from several news outlets and social media was set ablaze, the Florence employees began to wonder. The goal was to create a store exclusively dedicated to selling toys but modeled the look after a supermarket.

Larian has invited the public to be a part of an opportunity to #SaveToysRUs by donating to the GoFundMe campaign.

Charles Lazarus founded Toys "R" Us in 1948 as he was coming home from World War II and heard all his war buddies talk about starting families.

Larian, a billionaire, is using his own money, not MGA funds, for the bid.

The founder of Toys "R" Us died Thursday as the company planned to liquidate its inventory and close all of its USA stores.

Toys R Us mascot Geoffrey the Giraffe - originally known as Dr G Raffe - was introduced in 1969.

"It's very sad", Mix said of Toys "R" Us closing.

While ToysRUs had once been the industry innovator, it was squeezed out of existence this year by pressure from online retailers and new business models.

At an adjacent Toys R Us store in the same shopping center, Betty Johnson of Clifton, N.J., said she came to the store looking for liquidation bargains but learned "there are no sales for now".

Marnie Mix of Leesburg chuckled as she walked up and observed that the first few shoppers lined up outside the toy store were men. As many as 33,000 people could lose their jobs.

It is, admittedly, a long shot. "And I feel like it's robbing some of that magic from children. the magic of walking into a toy store and there's anything that a child would ever want".

The company announced last week it will shut or sell all of its 735 USA locations.

A retail force throughout the 1980s, it also faced pressure from larger stores with deeper discounts and was taken private in 2005 by a consortium of investors that included the KKR Group and Bain Capital. It operates more than 700 stores outside the United States.
