Genesis Essentia Concept: Challenging The Status Quo

A Genesis Essentia concept vehicle is seen on display at the New York Auto Show March 29, 2018. Called the Essentia, it's an all-electric, high-performance grand tourer that Genesis says offers a glimpse of the brand's future from a performance and technology point of view.

Of course, we speak only of a concept, so nothing is unveiled about its performance, its price or whether the vehicle will be produced or not, but in the eyes of enthusiasts, the Genesis Essentia has everything to please.

The Genesis Essentia concept is propelled by electric power, but the company hasn't revealed any specific numbers.

"We understand our obligation as a luxury auto manufacturer to create objects of desire, sparking passion and inspiration by emphasizing a culture while exceeding expectations in terms of technology and connectivity, bringing our outside world seamlessly to the inside of the vehicle", said Manfred Fitzgerald, global head of the Genesis brand.

"The Genesis Essentia concept defines our vision for an electric Gran Turismo that integrates Athletic Elegance and Genesis DNA as defining parameters", said Executive Vice President Luc Donckerwolke, Head of Genesis Design. This is made of mixed materials, starting with cognac leather on the seats and ending with Oxford Blue leather for the center console. The information in the cluster includes only what is necessary for driving. Ahead of the driver sits an eight-inch widescreen display. Towards the back, the windshield morphs into a stretched bubble roof, that ends abruptly at the car's cut-off back. The most striking thing about the Essentia is its two butterfly doors, which open silently with fingerprint- and facial recognition-enabled push-button controls. The battery pack is contained within the car's center tunnel inside an L-shape structure. This allows Essentia to achieve the super-low, 50-inch roofline and spacious, GT-style cabin. There's a lot of futuristic tech inside, including an advanced vehicle-to-infrastructure and vehicle-to-vehicle connectivity system. Essentia can inform the driver of up-to-the-minute road conditions, and help avoid accidents and traffic jams.

The Essentia Concept also demonstrates new uses for machine learning technology.

The vehicle will also connect to your smart home not that you would ever want to go back to your house if you ever got behind the wheel of the the Essentia. The glass-like hood of the vehicle also extends over the Essentia's cockpit, providing a transparent roof for the driver of the auto. It can also be used as a payment tool, through the mobile payments feature on the center screen.
