UFC 223: Tony Ferguson Out of Main Event, Max Holloway Steps In

That's right, Dana White is washing his hands of the entire thing.

Holloway will attempt to become the youngest fighter ever to hold two UFC titles, and only the second to hold both belts simultaneously.

This is the fourth time it was canceled, and the fight was previously scheduled for the TUF 22 Finale, UFC On Fox 19, and UFC 209. And Conor isn't exactly the guy I want to throw in as a late replacement fighter.

"Me and my wife were getting ready for Easter and I got a call from Lloyd, my manager", explained Alvarez (transcript courtesy of MMA Fighting).

Check back later in the week for bonus episodes on location from Brooklyn, including interviews with numerous fighters competing at UFC 223.

"We'll see If I get that champ-champ status", Holloway said of a possible fight with McGregor.

Conor McGregor beat Max Holloway in 2013. Kalikas talked to MMA Junkie about the new odds: "Holloway is a warrior for stepping up, and I will never count the guy out", Kalikas stated.

The Hawaiian is riding a 12-fight win streak, including back-to-back TKO finishes of Brazilian star Jose Aldo as he captured the UFC's 145lb title.

If victorious, he would join Randy Couture, B.J. Penn, Conor McGregor and Georges St-Pierre as the only fighters to hold world title in multiple weight classes.

"I think Conor could return in September, and it could be against one of these guys". Not only did he miss two full years due to a knee injury between 2014 and 2016, he withdrew from his third attempt at facing Ferguson last March for the interim 155-pound title after being hospitalized for a hard weight cut.

Addressing the fallout after Ferguson's withdrawal and Max Holloway's decision to step in, Khabib stated that he had specifically asked Dana to give him Conor in Brooklyn this weekend.

White said after the event that he was embarrassed and promised to one day make it up to the fans of Calgary. But it's fair to wonder whether McGregor will fight the victor of Saturday's showdown.
