Around the North: Ravens sign RGIII

Former first-round pick Robert Griffin III has found a new home in Baltimore, signing a one-year deal with the Baltimore Ravens, the team announced on Wednesday.

Griffin rejected offers from the Ravens and the Arizona Cardinals in the previous offseason because he did not feel the they were good fits, though he appears to have changed his mind about Baltimore. He played five games with the Browns before injuries caught up with him again, leading to his benching and, eventually, his release.

"I want to begin - late yesterday we agreed to a one-year deal with Robert Griffin".

If the Ravens select a quarterback in the second or third round, Baltimore could decide to go with a rookie as the primary backup and cut Griffin at the end of the preseason.

The ride ended abruptly, however, with Griffin suffering an ACL injury in a home playoff loss to the Seahawks (and Wilson). "I'm really feeling like we got a steal". Between his regressions and being unable to stay healthy, the Redskins chose to move on to quarterback Kirk Cousins who was drafted in the fourth round in the same draft. Ryan Mallett, who backed Flacco up the past two seasons, is a free agent.

"Very excited about it", explained Head coach John Harbaugh. Obviously, his personality, he's a confident guy. The Ravens have repeatedly talked about wanting to develop a young passer, and they continued to rave about the depth of this year's quarterback class. He's had a lot of success in this league early on. He came off injured reserve to start four more games, but threw for just 886 yards and tossed two touchdowns to three interceptions (72.5 quarterback rating).

The #Ravens almost signed RGIII past year and maintained interest throughout. "This makes us a better football team".
