Brawl breaks out between Rockies and Padres

The benches were cleared and five players were ejected after a fight broke out between the Rockies and Padres on Wednesday at Coors Field.

April 11, 2018; Denver, CO, USA; San Diego Padres catcher A.J. Ellis (17) and Colorado Rockies second baseman DJ LeMahieu (9) fight after a play in the third inning at Coors Field. For the Padres, Luis Perdomo and A.J. Ellis have also been thrown out.

By that time, players from both teams had reached the scene and a real scuffle ensued, with more punches thrown and multiple players swinging and grappling.

The night before, Rockies reliever Scott Oberg hit San Diego center fielder Manuel Margot in the ribs.

Outfielder Gerardo Parra was able to connect on a soft punch to AJ Ellis. Shortly after that but still during the scrum, Ellis ended up on the ground and stood up wiping off his lip. That forced him to the disabled list on Wednesday morning, with the Padres calling his injury "bruised ribs".

Then, in the first inning on Wednesday afternoon, in an at-bat where giving Trevor Story a free pass would seem wise, he was hit high on the front shoulder. Marquez hit Hunter Renfroe in the wrist in the second inning.

But now Arenado, Perdomo, German Marquez, Gerardo Parra, and A.J. Ellis were thrown out as the Rockies hope to take down the Padres in Denver.
