Kevin Durant Will Reportedly Restructure Contract With Warriors

Last summer Durant signed a two-year, $51 million deal, which was about $10 million less than what his max contract would have been.

The 29-year-old will decline his player option for the 2018-2019 season to become an unrestricted free agent, but he will look to restructure a new deal with the Warriors, ESPN reports.

However, his time on the open market will be brief.

According to Haynes, the Golden State forward will be be turning down a $26.2 million salary to restructure a new deal with the team. Last offseason, Durant took nearly $10 million less than what he could have earned on a max salary which allowed Golden State to resign role players like Andre Iguodala and Shaun Livingston.

Unfortunately for the rest of the league, there is nearly no chance Durant opts out in search of a change of scenery.

"Financially, obviously, what I wanted to do previous year, it made sense", Durant told the Athletic in March.

We also go over Quinn Cook talking about his new two-year deal after bouncing back and forth between the National Basketball Association and G-League.

Durant is earning much less than what a player of his caliber should be getting.

No matter what happens, Durant and teammate Steph Curry should be the faces of the franchise for quite some time with Curry signing a 5-year, $201 million deal last summer - the first $200 million contract in National Basketball Association history. His income would go from $35.3 million to $38.2 million, and the option year would be $41 million with a player option in the 5th year.

Depending on how much Durant values security, he could also sign a four-year max deal worth around $158 million.

Alternatively, the 2014 MVP could pen a three-year deal which allows him to opt out after the second season.

Under these terms, Durant would again be able to opt out of the deal after two seasons to seek a five-year deal worth in the region of $228 million, with the first year alone worth $39.4 million.
