How Stittsville is showing support for Humboldt Broncos

Murdocco said while the actual agenda for Thursday's vigil is still coming together, people are being encouraged to wear their sports jerseys and buckets will be stationed at the door for donations to help the families of those affected by the crash in Saskatchewan.

Weldon says she is happy the entire nation is rallying around the Broncos. "It's my son, it's his friends, it's the community", she said.

"It's just a sense of solidarity and that sense of brotherhood", said Maco Balkovec, director of an elite hockey academy based at Burnaby Central Secondary and coach of its midget prep team. "All I can do is offer our sincerest apologies, our sincerest condolences and sympathies, in particular to the Tobin family on the news that they would have received yesterday". "I know what they were talking about - and I got an immediate knot in my stomach", said Hamilton, a board member for the Valley Wildcatsorganization.

She said thousands of young people each day board buses to head to competitions and events, and thankfully most arrive home safe and sound, but in this case, a large group of young, talented people didn't.

"I know how close I am with my classmates so knowing that it could happen to anyone, it hits home, especially when I've taken countless bus rides with my team and I've arrived home safely", said Christine Thomas, who just finished her practicum this past year.

Supporters are wearing hockey jerseys to school and to work as a sign of outpouring support for the team and victims' families.

He said the town will survive, although the tragedy "will never go away".

Brons was extremely proud to be part of the Broncos team, her family said.

To show Humboldt the rest of the country is behind them, the public is asked to photograph anyone wearing a jersey to post it on social media with #jerseysforhumboldt.

"Lots of pressure on my mind", he said. "I can't imagine the pain that the families are going through". "I'm getting emotional even talking about it right now".

"It's nice that hockey stretches out so far".
