DOJ Report: McCabe Leaked Information to Media, Lied to Comey

Ever since he was sacked, McCabe has insisted that his firing was politically motivated as part of President Trump's conflict with the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

"Spent very little time with Andrew McCabe, but he never took notes when he was with me", Trump tweeted on March 18.

"LIED! LIED!" after the Justice Department's inspector general published a report alleging that the ex-deputy director misled investigators about his role in a news media disclosure about Hillary Clinton days before the 2016 election.

The report, part of an inspector general examination of the FBI's handling of the Clinton investigations during the 2016 campaign, was sent to Congress on Friday - in the middle of a rush of media coverage of Comey's book detailing his actions during the investigation and conflicts with President Trump.

On Friday afternoon, after the inspector general report into McCabe's behavior became public, Sarah Sanders, the White House press secretary told reporters, 'I haven't seen the full report, but sounds like two peas in a pod with McCabe and Comey'.

Trump portrayed the report's findings as vindication of his criticism of McCabe and former FBI Director James Comey as biased for their roles in shepherding along a federal probe into alleged collusion between Russian Federation and his 2016 campaign.

McCabe "lacked candor" in interviews in which he denied authorizing a subordinate to leak information about a Clinton Foundation investigation to The Wall Street Journal for an article published October 30, 2016, investigators determined. He said that when he believed his answers to the inspector general were misunderstood, he went back and tried to correct them. In a lengthy statement, Bromwich said the inspector general unfairly tried to conclude its work before McCabe could retire. "Stay tuned", Bromwich tweeted.

McCabe had already alleged that his firing was politically motivated, as the president had made clear he disliked McCabe long before the FBI's former No. 2 official was sacked.

"James Comey is a proven LEAKER & LIAR".

On Friday morning, Trump tweeted that Comey was "a proven LEAKER & LIAR", a "weak and untruthful slime ball" and "a awful director of the FBI". The raid sought, among other things, information on Cohen's $130,000 payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels, who claims to have had an affair with Trump, reports the Times.

As detailed below, we found that in late October 2016, McCabe authorized Special Counsel and AD/OPA to discuss with Barrett issues related to the FBI's Clinton Foundation investigation (CF Investigation).

We determined that as Deputy Director, McCabe was authorized to disclose the existence of the [Clinton Foundation] Investigation publicly if such a disclosure fell within the "public interest" exception in applicable FBI and DOJ policies generally prohibiting such a disclosure of an ongoing investigation.

Twenty-six hours before McCabe's planned retirement, Attorney General Jeff Sessions fired him.

"McCabe is Comey!" he wrote.

On Friday, Trump and his allies celebrated the report, even before its public release.

"Crafty plan", was how Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan described the McCabe revelation to The Daily Caller News Foundation.
