Cohen facilitated $1.6 million payment on behalf of GOP fundraiser

Cohen's home, office and hotel were raided Monday by federal authorities reportedly looking for information about payments made to women for their silence, including those who alleged affairs with Trump.

Through a statement provided by a spokesman, Broidy said he did have a relationship and, at the end of it, the woman told him she was pregnant. "She alone decided that she did not want to continue with the pregnancy and I offered to help her financially during this hard period". It also prevents her from pursuing "what she said were potential legal claims against Mr. Broidy, according to the person familiar with the matter".

Broidy apologized to his wife and family for the affair with the Playmate, who discovered she was pregnant and chose to get an abortion. The money was to be paid to her over two years in quarterly settlements, with the first payment due on December 1, sources told WSJ.

The person, who spoke on condition of anonymity, was confirming a report by the Wall Street Journal. Broidy said he retained Cohen because Cohen had a prior relationship with Davidson.

"Mr. Cohen reached out to me after being contacted by this woman's attorney, Keith Davidson".

Attorneys for Cohen and Republican National Committee spokespersons, as well as lawyers for the former Playboy model, have not yet responded to CNBC's requests for comment.

Broidy, a deputy finance chairman of the Republican National Committee and Los Angeles-based venture capitalist, admitted to having a relationship with the mystery woman.

Broidy, a close friend of Trump's, works on the Republican National Committee with Cohen.

Cohen and Trump are now being sued by porn star Stormy Daniels, who seeks to void her own hush deal over an alleged dalliance with Trump for which she was paid $130,000.

The deal was negotiated by the same players involved in a October 2016 $130,000 payment to Stormy Daniels, an ex-porn star who claims to have had a one-night stand with Trump in 2006.

Clifford's lawyer, Michael Avenatti seeks to nullify the agreement, arguing that it is invalid because it does not bear Trump's signature.

"It is unfortunate that this personal matter between two consenting adults is the subject of national discussion just because of Michael Cohen's involvement", Broidy said.

Broidy, an investor, already was in the sights of the special prosecutor, Robert Mueller, because of his relationship with George Nader, a businessman who serves as an adviser to the de facto ruler of the United Arab Emirates, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahya.

Both agreements had side letters identifying the parties by their real names, according to the report.

Davidson and Cohen were also in communication about a third agreement involving former Playboy centerfold Karen McDougal. She has said she understood that American Media Inc. was buying her story not to publish it, but to bury it, in what has been called a "catch and kill" arrangement.
