Karnataka elections: Siddaramaiah is No. 1 choice for CM, predicts opinion poll

Other leaders like RV Deshpande and UT Khader will contest from Haliyal and Mangalore seats, respectively.

Gulbarga Uttar is now represented by Qamarul Islam.

Candidates for Sindgi, Nagthan, Melukote, Kittur, Raichur and Shantinagar assembly seats have not been decided yet.

The Congress has also given the party ticket Iqbal Ansari - a sitting MLA of Janata Dal (S).

Some of the Karnataka party leaders feel that the tickets need to be given to the winning candidates and expressed apprehensions about the loyalty of those joining the Congress ahead of elections, they said.

According to the Congress first list for 2018 Karnataka elections Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will contest from the Chamundeshwari assembly seat, his son Yatheendra will contest from Varuna constituency and Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy's daughter Soumya received the Congress ticket from Jayanagar seat.

The 224-member Assembly expires on May 28 in the state where the Congress is now in power, with 122 seats against the BJP's 43.

Apart from seats tally, the important thing to note in the opinion polls is the vote share percentage. Elections will be held on May 12 and the counting of votes in all 224 constituencies will be held on May 15. The last date for filing nominations is April 24 and withdrawal is April 27. A report by Deccan Chronicle had said that ground reports reaching the national headquarters of the BJP indicated that the party's move to project the "tainted" BS Yeddyurappa as their chief ministerial candidate had "not gone down well" with the electorate in Karnataka.

Speaking to India Today, Congress General Secretary incharge KC Venugopal said the party is clear that workers and winnability matters. In the Bellary region, the Congress has accommodated two former BJP MLAs - mining baron Anand Singh and businessman B Nagendra - both of who are facing charges of involvement in an illegal iron ore mining racket.
