Sloppy United were punished, says Jose Mourinho

Sloppy United were punished, says Jose Mourinho

In sealing the league at this stage, City matched the record for the earliest title win - held by United since 2001.

United produced a subdued performance against the Baggies and were beaten by a 73rd-minute header from Jay Rodriguez.

However, when questioned on how City compare to his Chelsea team which won the league a couple of years ago, Mourinho was reluctant to comment.

The Red Devils lead third-placed Liverpool by just one point, although they do have a game in hand, but with Liverpool hitting their stride of late, Mourinho's men will come under pressure to hold onto second spot as the season nears a close. "I believe in myself but I don't play".

"I won eight titles and I'm not in the moon because I won against Manchester City, a match that is just three points", he said.

He added: "They won the title because they were the best team". During the week I was trying to fight that.

United's afternoon was symptomatic of their entire season. Reportedly, United have scouted Tierney multiple times this season, and they intend to finalize the deal this summer.

According to the Sun, United players played loud music and, having learned that City players had booked tables in restaurants all over town in preparation for their title glory, they are said to have shouted, "Booked tables have you?"

"If I play a player against Bournemouth and he plays phenomenal, he plays the semi-final", Mourinho said. "It would be one of the best three seasons I have ever had as a player and as a manager".

Would you sell Pogba after his inconsistent campaign?

"I think he has to try to keep that level of stability, and from that stability of course will appear the special match with the special performance like it happened against City".

"So one of the things we must improve is consistency".

United beat their local rivals 3-2 at the Etihad Stadium last Saturday after coming behind from a 2-0 deficit in the first half. His decision to forego the match looked justified considering West Brom's awful form, but the visitors easily coped with United's ponderous attacks and looked unsafe going forward. "We complicated our football and gave West Brom a chance to feel comfortable defensively".

"West Brom is a club I care about a lot", he said. I want to congratulate everyone.
