Amazon Launches Jacksonville In-Car Delivery Service That Unlocks Vehicles Remotely

"Setup was super easy for my OnStar-equipped car-I granted Amazon Key permission to open my car's trunk and the ability to relock my auto when done, and that was it", said Scott L. from Miami, one of the Amazon Prime members who received early access to the service.

The service works now on certain 2015 and newer Chevrolets, Buicks, GMCs, Cadillacs or Volvos with an active OnStar or Volvo On Call account. Through this app, they can link their cars to their amazon accounts.

The courier does not have a special key or direct access to the car but can only swipe to request the vehicle be unlocked from the car company's connected car services. After a customer adds their car's color, make and model into the app, a delivery person can find it with the aid of Global Positioning System. Visit the Volvo On Call website to learn more.

Amazon will not use the service for items weighing more than 50 pounds.

What happens if I decide to move my vehicle last minute during my delivery window?

Is in-car delivery available to all customers?

Amazon Key, which was launched past year, also allows homeowners with WiFi-connected locks to unlock their front doors remotely so packages can be left inside.

Once you have completed setup within the Amazon Key App, shop as you normally do on Amazon.com or the Amazon mobile shopping app. Linking such a auto to the Amazon Key App enables in-car deliveries when your vehicle is parked in a publicly accessible area, typically at your home or work. It also notifies customers when the delivery is on its way, and the package has arrived.

"For city residents like myself, the promise of in-car delivery is a game changer".

The in-car delivery effort is part of Amazon's drive to leave packages where they can not be easily stolen. When the delivery driver arrives-before your vehicle is unlocked-Amazon verifies that an authorized driver is at the right location with the right package, through an encrypted authentication process.

AMZN says the in-car delivery service is available for Same-Day, Two-Day and Standard shipping, with customers simply selecting "In-Car" delivery at checkout.

After that it's pretty simple, just park your auto in a publicly accessible parking space within two blocks of your delivery address. Not to mention if we had to choose, a stranger having access to the trunk of our Camry is much less worrisome than giving them a key into our home...

Before you get too freaked out or excited, know that not every auto is eligible. This can be to the building of your delivery address or in-car delivery on the next delivery day.

Key In-Car delivery is a great idea especially if you spend a lot of time away from home.
