Nobel Prize for Trump? Some See a Path

At a historic summit this week, North and South Korea announced that they agreed to the goals of removing nuclear weapons from the Korean Peninsula and pursuing talks with the United States to declare an official end to the Korean War.

Bremmer, who is also the founder of the political-risk research and consulting firm based in NY, said the USA got China to step up sanctions and brought North Korea to the negotiating table.

And he may soon have a Nobel Peace Prize to show for it. Trump and Kim are now the favorites to win the prize, according to one British oddsmaker, and some of Trump's aides are telling reporters that a lasting thaw between North and South Korea should win Trump the award. "We have not yet reached them, but if they occur, the President deserves the Nobel peace prize", said Graham.

Trump is set to meet the North Korean leader in the coming weeks, but the location and the exact schedules are still being discussed. And now some of Trump's fellow Republicans are even suggesting he should be up for the Nobel Peace Prize.

The agreement came after President Donald Trump's directed fiery rhetoric towards the rogue nation and after the administration imposed multiple rounds of sanctions. Earlier this year the president tweeted about having a "much bigger" nuclear button than North Korea.

A Getty Images photo showed people in Seoul, South Korea - described in the caption as activists who support Korean reunification - holding placards saying Trump would win the Nobel Peace Prize. "It may not happen, but it's the biggest change since the end of the hostilities", Graham said, according to the Washington Times.

"No Nobel Peace Prize ever elicited more attention than the 2009 prize to Barack Obama", Mr. Lundestad said.
