Salah 'insulted' by ongoing image rights dispute with Egyptian FA

Salah's exploits for the UEFA Champions League semi-finalists has made him one of the most celebrated individuals in his homeland but is now currently in a contractual dispute due to the Egyptian FA using his image rights without his permission.

The Liverpool star, who has scored 43 goals in his debut season at Anfield, is said to be insulted over the fact that his image has been used on a national team plane without his consent.

Egypt qualified for the tournament for the first time in 28 years, and its chances in Group A against host Russia, Saudi Arabia and Uruguay mainly rest on the 25-year-old Salah's shoulders. Rival company "we", the official sponsor of the Egyptian national team, provided the jet to the team. The issue has now escalated into a full-blown altercation between Salah and his FA.

"Mohamed Salah is an example for Egypt's youth who love and are loyal to their homeland and he is representing his country overseas in the best image".

Ramy Issa, Salah's agent and lawyer, said the image, as well as other advertisements, had not been authorised by the player. He also led Egypt to the World Cup finals by converting a last-minute penalty against DR Congo in a crucial World Cup qualifier, enhancing his cult status at home. With more than 40 goals this season, Salah has captivated the soccer insane nation of about 100 million people. To most Egyptians, he brings them happiness and pride at a time of great economic difficulties.

"We were promised a solution and God willing the issue is on its way to being resolved", the midfield maestro tweeted late Sunday, while thanking his fans for their "unreal" support.

"Never mind about Twitter and focus on the next match [in Rome]", Egyptian comedian Mohamed Henedy tweeted in response, "and I promise you we will create a whole new Twitter for you, not just a hashtag".
