Steven Gerrard 'excited' as he heads for crunch talks with Rangers

Australian star Tom Rogic continued his hot run of form with a goal as Celtic's thrashing of Rangers in the Glasgow derby secured the Scottish Premier League title.

Danny Murphy says his former Liverpool team-mate Steven Gerrard is waiting for assurances over transfer budgets before agreeing to takeover the manager's job at Rangers.

"Six months ago you are trying to get Derek McInnes, tried and tested in Scotland, knows the game inside out, and six months later you are away down the road trying to get a youth coach", he told PA Sport.

Highlights of Celtic's 5-0 win against Rangers as they clinched the Scottish Premiership title.

"No disrespect to Gerrard, but at this moment in time that's what he is".

"I suppose as a football club Rangers can't be trying to get someone like Stevie, who is young, hungry and ambitious, to go there and compete and sell him a dummy".

According to Sunday Mirror journalist Andy Dunn, Liverpool have given their former Talisman their blessing to take the Rangers job as they see it as a kind of loan move that will see him return to Anfield in the future with the experience needed to coach at the highest level.

'But he's also bright and I don't think he's going to put himself into a position where he walks into a job with his hands tied in terms of the resources he's got to compete with Brendan.

However, with Jurgen Klopp having been handed a six year contract and the club progressing nicely under his stewardship, it seems Gerrard chances of taking over as manager will not be for a good few years yet.

Gerrard is now working for Liverpool as an academy coach, although he has never hide the fact that he would one day like to manage the first-team.

"But the thing is, I think he is probably needing some more reassurances regarding what they can give him".

"Now, after a couple of bad results he's been thrown to the garbage and I think it's very discourteous".

"As a striker, you want to score as many as you can so I will go to Ibrox on Saturday looking to score".
