Former President George HW Bush discharged from hospital

Former US President George H W Bush, 93, was discharged from a Houston hospital, where he stayed for almost two weeks for treatment of an infection that spread to his blood, a family spokesman said on Friday.

George H W Bush was admitted to a Houston hospital for an infection that spread to his blood a day after the funeral of Barbara Bush, his wife of seven decades, a family spokesman said on April 23.

Bush, the oldest living former president - and longest-lived president in USA history - has vascular parkinsonism, a form of Parkinson's disease.

"His doctors report he is doing well and is happy to return home", McGrath tweeted on Friday.

George had been admitted to intensive care due to an infection, just a day after his wife Barbara Bush's funeral.

Jim McGrath, Bush's spokesman, tweeted Friday evening that the president was released from Methodist Hospital in Houston after being treated for an infection.

McGrath told ABC News the ex-president's advance team leaves for Kennebunkport, Maine, this week to prep their home with the medical support he will need for the summer there.

The Rockets won the series 4-1 on April 25. But that "recent developments notwithstanding", he has not taken up residence at the hospital. Jeb Bush said he believed his father "got sick on objective so that he could be with her".

Bush was also hospitalized for 16 days in January 2017 for pneumonia.

Those hospitalizations were not publicly disclosed at the time.

As well as having been president, he is the father of George W Bush, who was the 43rd person to hold the top job - from 2001 to 2009. Barbara was also the mother of George W. Bush, the 43rd president of the United States.
