Arsene Wenger: Arsenal boss speaks out before final home game on expectations

"I know that's not easy but, above all, I am like you, I am an Arsenal fan", Wenger said a post-match presentation on the Emirates turf.

As you might expect, the club themselves also laid on a special farewell, with the current squad using their shirts to deliver personal messages of thanks to for the departing Frenchman.

Wenger won three Premier Leagues and a record seven FA Cups.

That "Invincibles" season was his last as a Premier League victor, though, and fans became exhausted of Arsenal's inability to compete for Premier League and Champions League titles. Please follow this team and support them next season because they deserve it.

Wenger has tipped Arsenal for future title challenges but his future remains shrouded in secrecy.

Arsene Wenger said he is looking forward to a fresh start despite his sadness at bidding farewell to Arsenal after 22 years in charge as manager.

Wenger is leaving Arsenal after 22 years in charge and he now only has two away fixtures remaining before signing off next Sunday after his lowest-ever Premier League finish in sixth.

The game began with a mark of respect for Wenger as both sides along with the match officials stood in a guard of honour, while the fans wore T-shirts reading "Merci Arsene", which translates to "Thank you Arsene". Thank you all for being such an important part of my life and I hope to see you soon.

The Frenchman stated: "I will always be an Arsenal fan".

Wenger appeared to welcome the suggestion that this process could include him becoming a supporter of the club and taking a seat in the stadium's North Bank if he has the time.

'What I will miss most about this job is the competition itself, ' Wenger wrote. For 20 years, I just felt, "OK, forget about me, and just care about the problems you have to sort out". A brace from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as well as goals from Sead Kolasinac, Alexandre Lacazette and Alex Iwobi secured the ideal finale.
