Etheridge helps Cardiff gain Premier League promotion

Cardiff City ensured second place in the Championship and automatic promotion to the Premier League on Sunday afternoon thanks to a goalless draw at home against Reading.

Warnock said: "We are not going to change things drastically". We can never be like the two Manchester clubs, or Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea or Spurs.

"I just trained as hard as I could and waited".

It was at this time that the Oldham offer came up and Etheridge signed a two-month deal at Boundary Park before he joined Charlton on a short-term contract.

Neil Warnock took to the stage to deliver an end of season speech, and ended up leading the room in a rendition of Bob Marley and the Wailers" hit "Three Little Birds'. which was caught on camera by Kenneth Zohore and Liverpool loanee Marko Grujic. "There's not many words you can say, really, it's just fantastic".

With 19 clean sheets Etheridge has enjoyed an excellent season and won over those Cardiff supporters who wondered whether he was up to the job.

"It's been an emotional roller-coaster for me", Etheridge said.

FILIPPINO-British goalkeeper Neil Etheridge is set to make history as English Premier League's first Southeast Asian player after securing promotion to the top-flight league in England on Sunday.

"They're proud of being Bluebirds again, the fans", Warnock added.

"We are nowhere near other clubs and their billionaire owners who spend so much on players and wages, not even in the Championship".

Asked whether he is now the most renowned footballer from the Philippines, which is a country that pays far greater attention to sports such as boxing, basketball and billiards than football, Etheridge laughs and says: "I'd like to think so, yeah". I am so proud of them.
