Michael Clarke surprised with Virat Kohli's decision to skip the Afghanistan Test

Rahane, 29, will lead the 15-member Indian squad for what is the first Test ever for Afghanistan, the newest entrants to big league cricket.

The single biggest point of contention that has emerged instead, is whether Virat Kohli is "disrespecting" the Afghanistan cricket team by being absent from their inaugural Test and playing for Surrey instead.

Afghanistan, who became a Full Member in June previous year, will be the fourth nation to make their Test debut against India, with the other three being Pakistan, Zimbabwe and Bangladesh. Also missing from the Test squad which toured South Africa recently are Rohit Sharma, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah. Rohit Sharma is the major name that has been omitted from the Test squad. Shami, Hardik Pandya, Ishant Sharma, Shardul Thakur. "It was only because that the English challenge is something which we have to rise to that Virat will abstain (from the Afghanistan Test) for the right reasons", said Choudhary. I can understand why they do not want to play D/N Test. "This was the best opportunity for us to give Karun a chance, because he's been doing well", Prasad said.

"I would still pick Ajinkya Rahane ahead of Ambati Rayudu".

There are calls growing that Sunrisers Hyderabad pacer Siddharth Kaul should be included in the India T20I squad.

Rohit's removal from the Test squad comes after he endured a torrid time with the bat during India's Test series in South Africa, where he scored 78 runs in two Tests at an average of 19.50. The selectors continued to show faith in Washington Sundar, who has had a rather ordinary IPL with the struggling Royal Challengers Bangalore. The selectors didn't experiment with any of the limited overs squad, with senior batsman Rayudu making a comeback in the wake of some good performances. Suresh Raina is in only for the T20Is, though. Virat Kohli has been excluded from what will be the debut Test match for Afghanistan.

Ajinkya will lead in the squad in the absence of regular skipper Virat Kohli. "Shami.they will join us for the third India-A game and from there they will go and play against Essex (tour game) and continue with the Test team".

India "A" squad for four-day matches against England Lions: Nair (captain), R Samarth, M Agarwal, A Easwaran, P Shaw, H Vihari, Ankit Bawne, V Shankar, KS Bharat (wicketkeeper), Jayant Yadav, Shahbaz Nadeem, Ankit Rajpoot, Md Siraj, Navdeep Saini, Rajneesh Gurbani.

When asked why some of the openers were not sent for county stints, selection committee chief MSK Prasad made it clear that it was only Virat, who got an offer unlike others.
