I await PEC to ask me to resign, says Supra Mahumapelo

The PEC had instructed Mahumapelo to withdraw his resignation, apparently tendered to the speaker of the provincial legislature, and appoint an acting premier to replace him while he is on leave.

Meanwhile, Freedom Front Plus (FF+) leader in the North West, Michal Groenewald said in a statement that his party would continue to push for investigations into Mahumapelo's alleged corrupt activities.

"It is not the ANC that causes us difficulties".

Mahumapelo announced that he would resign in an interview with the SABC on Tuesday night.

"There are people going around making noise about me and I've been keeping quiet".

The PEC has reiterated its support for Mahumapelo, urging him to take legal action against Revolutionary Council, which was one of the groups which had pressured President Cyril Ramaphosa to take action against Mahumapelo.

The North West has been rocked by numerous allegations of corruption and maladministration.

Members of the National Health and Allied Workers Union had also been refusing to work for over two months.

"My structure then said that I must wait a bit because I didn't consult with the PEC, so I'm here now". "The Premier's resignation must not save him from being prosecuted", he said.

"As soon as I am done with the executive of the province, I will be addressing the top management of the government in the premier's office after which I will be in a press conference to indicate the way forward".

Speaking to media outside the venue, Mahumapelo says that he reports to the party and will wait for an instruction.

The protests started in the provincial capital of Mahikeng, after the Economic Freedom Fighters motion of no confidence in Mahumapelo was indefinitely postponed when the party launched a court bid to demand a secret ballot to "protect" ANC MPLs.

"Having a PEC where he is still captain of the ship...they will still dictate whom they want as MEC's so the fight is not over yet", he said.
