Trump Threatens Government Action Against Reporters, Suggests Pulling Press Credentials

The president's morning Twitter rant admitted that "Fake News" doesn't mean faulty reporting or satire from The Onion, but simply refers to things he considers negative.

"White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said on Wednesday afternoon that the Trump White House is "very committed to a free press", just hours after her boss proposed "[taking] away credentials" of the "fake news" media that covers him.

"I'm standing up in front of you right now taking your questions", Sanders replied, claiming that journalists have told her that "this is one of the most accessible White Houses".

Trump suggested that all "negative" reports should be classified as "fake" and the journalists who produce those reports should have their "credentials" revoked.

"Why do we work so hard in working with the media when it is corrupt?", he continued.

This, and most importantly, revoking the White House press credentials of certain reporters based on their coverage of the administration may actually be illegal.

The tweet came after a Fox & Friends segment cited a report from the conservative Media Research Center that concluded that 90% of evening newscasts on ABC, CBS, and NBC skewed "negative" and primarily focused on scandals and controversies.

"And a president preventing a free and independent press from covering the workings of our republic would be an unconscionable assault on the First Amendment", Talev said.

Trump has frequently attacked the media and its coverage of him since his days as a presidential candidate.

Only Fox News is providing the appropriate level of Michael Cohen coverage: nearly none. During that campaign, Trump took away press credentials from a few outlets that published uncomplimentary coverage.

At Wednesday's White House briefing, Sanders faced a grilling from reporters regarding millions of dollars that were paid into the same account that was used to silence adult film star Stormy Daniels about an alleged affair with the president. Just yesterday, the New York Times accused the Secretary of State for being AWOL (Absent Without Official Leave) when he was flying across the globe to bring three Americans home.
