Lionel Messi admits it would be 'terrible' if Neymar joins Real Madrid

Lionel Messi has conceded it "would be terrible" if former Barcelona teammate Neymar joined Real Madrid this summer, as the five-time Ballon d'Or victor voiced his opinion on the furious speculation surrounding the Brazilian's future.

"It would be bad, because of all that Ney means to Barcelona", Messi told Argentina's TyC Sports.

The Portugal global has had a hand in Real Madrid's last three Champions League trophy wins. The numbers that he does season in, season out are absolutely unbelievable, but come May 26 we'll be looking to stop him and the rest of Real Madrid.

The Brazilian star moved from La Liga giants Barcelona to Paris Saint Germain last summer for a record transfer deal of £198 million.

In terms of the two players Liverpool are after in exchange, Navas would no doubt provide an upgrade over Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet - with the latter being tipped to move on this summer as the Reds eye a new long-term No.1.

If he was to win football's most prestigious individual award it would finally put an end to the Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo duopoly that the talented pair had over the award since 2008.

He has been highly praised this season for his talismanic performances for Liverpool, guiding them to a top four spot and a Champions League final.

"It's not an objective to be the best in history".

The Argentina captain also spoke about how well their domestic rivals, Real Madrid, are doing in the competition.

"I won't find anywhere better than this for me".

If he does join Real it would mean him lining up against his former Barcelona side next season in Spain's La Liga - and that's something Messi does not want to see.
