Mary Scanlon wins crowded primary for newly drawn safe Democratic Pennsylvania district

They put themselves in position to gain as many as half a dozen House seats in November and are all but assured of sending at least three women to Congress. The loyalty won Barletta Trump's early support in the Senate race, as well as recorded telephone calls last weekend featuring the president backing Barletta "fully, strongly and proudly". Instead, he focused his attacks on the candidate he hopes to unseat in the fall, two-term Democratic Sen. Robert Casey Jr., who has stockpiled almost $10 million for the race.

Barletta is a favorite of Trump, whom Barletta endorsed in 2016. Bob Casey in November.

Here are the unofficial results of key Pennsylvania primary elections held on Tuesday, May 15, including the Republican contest for governor, the Democratic and Republican contests for lieutenant governor and the GOP bid for U.S. Senate. In Butler County with almost all of the precincts reporting, Chris Rieger of Cranberry dominated Robert Multari and Ron Dinicola with 70 percent of the vote. The best known candidate in the race, Northampton County District Attorney John Morganelli, conceded to Wild. Split time zones have some polls closing in the state at 10 p.m. EDT, but most close at 11 p.m. ET.

Because that seat is widely viewed as a safe Democratic seat in all major House rankings, it is likely that Dean will defeat Dan David, her Republican opponent, in November - barring a major shift in the news. This is the first election to use Pennsylvania's new congressional maps, which were drawn by the state Supreme Court this past winter. There, they are hoping to pick up a chunk of the 23 seats they need to win the House majority.

Voters went to the polls Tuesday in primary contests in four states: Pennsylvania, Nebraska, Idaho and Oregon.

Idaho, Nebraska and OR are also holding primaries Tuesday.

For U.S. Senate, incumbent Republican Deb Fischer is being challenged by four fellow Republicans. She ran unsuccessfully for lieutenant governor in 2014 as part of Democrat Chuck Hassebrook's gubernatorial campaign. The victor will face Rep. Don Bacon, R. Pennsylvania first started allowing lieutenant governors to serve a second term in the 1970s.

In the primary race for the governor's seat on the Republican side, the Associated Press reports state senator and waste-hauling millionaire Scott Wagner is the victor of the Republican nomination to challenge Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf. In another district Democrats are aggressively contesting, they nominated Susan Wild.

"Bob Casey has moved so far left he doesn't really represent Pennsylvania anymore", Barletta said.

"We're beyond thrilled at what is going on tonight", said EMILY's List President Stephanie Schriock.

Smith defeated Republican candidates Kirk Penner, an Aurora small business executive; Larry Lee Scott Bolinger, a property manager and author from Alliance; and Grand Island farmer Arron Kowalski. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and claimed the progressive mantle, but he finished in third place.

The Democrat Party has a runoff for Texas Governor between Lupe Valdez and Andrew White.

Scott Wallace, a former counsel to the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee and the U.S. Senate Committee on Veteran Affairs, won a three-person race in the Democratic primary, capturing 56.3 percent of the vote.

Republican Rick Saccone, who lost to Lamb, was denied a chance for redemption in a primary for a Pittsburgh-area district that favors the GOP. He now faces state Sen. Guy Reschenthaler in the GOP primary for the deep-red 14th District in western Pennsylvania.

Incumbent U.S. Rep. Brendan Boyle, a Democrat from Northeast Philadelphia, defeated entrepreneur Michele Lawrence to win the party nomination.

Stack, a former Philadelphia state senator, has had a chilly relationship with Wolf in their first term together.

Wolf past year ordered an investigation into the treatment of state employees by Stack and his wife and stripped Stack of state police protection.

Republican Greg McCauley, is a businessman who operated Wendy's restaurants with his family and was on the Quigley Corp. team that made Cold-EEZE a national-brand.

While strategists in both parties are monitoring the Senate race in Pennsylvania, most are not counting on the seat flipping Republican.

Even candidates who don't make it to the general election are still establishing name recognition and donor networks, she said: "They're pushing other candidates to address issues and concerns that are important to them and their communities".

Pennsylvania was one of the 21 states targeted by the Russians ahead of the 2016 presidential election.

Other Republicans hoping to challenge ballot Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf in the November election are Paul Mango, a former health care systems consultant; and Laura Ellsworth, a commercial litigation attorney and former chairwoman of the Greater Pittsburgh Chamber of Commerce.
