David Moyes keen to stay but Sam lacks confidence

Asked whether Moyes would stay in charge, Gold said on Tuesday: "Who knows?"

It is understood that the Scot is highly unlikely to be offered a new deal as the club look to appoint a more dynamic coach.

But Monday's meeting, set up when Moyes was still manager, proves that Sullivan is certainly interested in making another managerial change, with Fonseca the first through the door for talks. "Who knows?", Gold told Sky Sports.

But when questioned on whether or not he could now categorically state if he wants the West Ham job, Moyes said: "I can't because I'm no further forward. I'd like to think it was David Moyes, I really hope so".

"He's a proper professional, his record speaks for itself".

"As we speak, David Moyes is on the list of managers and we will be selecting one in due course".

The Portuguese boss is the early front-runner to succeed David Moyes after he jetted to Luton and was joined by super agent Jorge Mendes at Sullivan's multi-million pound Essex mansion.

Allardyce took over from Ronald Koeman at Everton last November and guided them away from trouble at the wrong end of the table, but he has been unable to win over a section of the club's fans.

Although the Hammers flirted with relegation after a run of two wins in 12 Premier League games, seven points out of the last nine allowed the club to finish in 13th spot, nine points in front of the drop zone.
