Margot Kidder Passes Away at Age 69

Kidder got her start in Hollywood with the 1968 film The Best Damn Fiddler From Calabogie To Kalada. She also dated notable stars like Steven Spielberg. Whether throwing herself off a building to "prove" Kent's secret, or crying in his office at the realization that her life with Superman would never be easy, she was able to run the gamut of emotions, while always staying true to Lane's indomitable spirit. "You've reached the goal, the thing that you said you wanted ... but also, it makes your life incredibly public", said Annie Kidder, who is based in Toronto. Like Reeve's Superman, Kidder's Lois has become the gold standard by which portrayals of the character are judged, and her interpretation of Lois can be felt even in the more recent big screen outings like Superman Returns and Man of Steal.

Margot Kidder began her acting career in the 1960s and rose to fame by playing Lois Lane, starring alongside Christopher Reeve in 1978's Superman. Personally, Superman was the first superhero movie I ever saw, and I distinctly remember thinking I'd love to have a girlfriend like Lois one day. Her career struggled after the Superman movies ended, and in the late 1990s she had a nervous breakdown and was homeless for a time.

"I had the honor of meeting #MargotKidder & speaking with her about her Superman experience", Routh tweeted. She leaves behind a legacy of greatness, from Superman to Amittyville Horror and Black Christmas, as well as giving with her charitable work and political activism.

Kidder also starred in films like 1973's Sisters and 1979's The Amityville Horror. "Gone at the age of 69, she was very open about her battle with bipolar disease".

The actress who played beloved Lois Lane in the original "Superman" movies, Margot Kidder, has died.

She later made guest appearances on many TV shows including Smallville, Brothers and Sisters, and The L Word.

She was unable to work for two years after serious auto crash in 1990, and eventually became bankrupt. Police responded and found her dead.

In 2005, Kidder became a naturalized USA citizen. Something about her that feels whole and true.

She'd been married 3 times, although she'd been single since the '80s. Have a look at some of the Twitter reactions to her passing below, and realize how many creative people she herself inspired to pursue their own dreams.

However, her carer suffered a decline in the '90s, and Kidder notably suffered through some publicised mental health issues.

But for an entire generation, Margot Kidder is the Lois Lane.
