Accused Santa Fe school shooter's dad says bullying behind rampage

CBS reported that Watt met Monday with kids at Clear Lake Regional Medical Center who are recovering from last week's shooting at a Santa Fe, Texas, high school.

The students who survived the Parkland shooting weren't too young that they could be dismissed as being told what to say by adults (although that happened) or too old that they could be accused of having a political agenda (although that happened too).

"You could feel a unification of voices around the issues he discussed from various school districts and law enforcement", he told The Texas Tribune.

The makeshift memorials were growing larger by the hour outside Santa Fe High School last Saturday, the balloons holding up valiantly while the floral bouquets were already beginning to wilt in the early summer heat.

Abbott invited representatives from the Texas State Rifle Association, which says it protects the lawful use of firearms, and Texas Gun Sense, which says it wants reforms to protect the public, to join him in state capital Austin, according to various media outlets. I've always kind of felt like eventually it was going to happen here too, so-I don't know. A 17-year-old student is being held on capital murder charges.

Antonios Pagourtzis said his son never displayed any signs that he would be capable of such violence, explaining that he didn't fight with others, didn't drink alcohol and seemed to enjoy healthy pursuits such as working out.

Wall said while officials would like students back in school "we realize that there are students, staff and families who need time for grieving and mourning". It's unclear when the autopsies will be complete, Florence said, and release of the completed autopsies could be delayed at the prosecutor's request.

The massacre claimed the lives of students Sabika Sheikh, Shana Fisher, Jared Black, Chris Stone, Angelique Ramirez, Christian Riley Garcia, Aaron Kyle McLeod and Kimberly Vaughan.

Houston police Officer John Barnes, a resource officer at the school who confronted the gunman, was among the victims hospitalized.

Police arrested Dimitrios Pagourtzis, 17, at the Santa Fe school following the rampage they said he committed with a shotgun and a.38-caliber pistol.

The suspect won't face the death penalty if he is convicted.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has vowed to address school violence and safety in the wake of another mass school shooting.

Abbott and Texas Republicans have embraced a steady relaxation of gun laws in recent years.

The first meeting Tuesday was attended by nearly two dozen school administrators, politicians, law enforcement officials and an architect with expertise on school design, among others.

"The problem is that innocent people are being shot", Abbott said. I didn't see a child who is a murderer.

Reporters were then ushered out of the room, as Abbott's office announced they would be prior to the meeting. State Rep. Chris Turner of Grand Prairie, chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, said Friday that the state should also pass universal background checks and require the reporting of stolen guns.
