Service Dog Gives Birth to 8 Puppies at Florida Airport Gate

Ellie the service dog was accompanying a passenger en route to Philadelphia when her litter decided it was time to make its entrance into the world.

Personnel with the Tampa Fire Rescue, which documented the birth on Twitter, helped Elle to deliver her puppies.

The new mom, owner Diane Van Atter and the puppies' father, Golden Nugget, were waiting for a flight home Friday when the puppies started arriving one by one.

Paramedics from the Tampa Fire Rescue assisted the 2-year-old golden retriever named Eleanor Rigby to give birth to seven males and a female puppy, in an occasion enjoyed by all the travelers who were present near Gate F-81.

Dressed in denim capri trousers and a Hawaiian-print shirt, the owner snuggled right up to Ellie to comfort her through the process.

It was quite a scene to take in, too. They were aware that Ellie was pregnant, but didn't realize how far along she was.

Another adult dog can also be seen near the proud mother giving birth.

'Tampa paramedics do it all! As Ellie went into labor, Nugget, the father of her babies, watched calmly.

Eight puppies were born in total.

Ellie is short for the service dog's full name, which is Eleanor Rigby.
