Man United are close to completing their first summer signing

FC Porto have been taken by surprise by Diogo Dalot, who is close to joining Manchester United in the ongoing transfer window. The Portuguese under 21 global will become United's first signing of the summer.

Dalot will compete with Antonio Valencia for the right-back slot at Old Trafford.

United are in advanced talks to sign Brazil midfielder Fred from Shakhtar Donetsk for an initial £44m which could rise to £50m with add-ons.

United will also continue to monitor Gareth Bale's future at Real Madrid, having previously informed his representatives that they would like to be involved in any discussion over his future, should he decide to leave.

Matteo Darmian is set to join Juventus, while Dutch worldwide Daley Blind is unlikely to still be a United player by the start of the new season. The later has been on Juventus' radar and a transfer seems likely.

Porto had hoped to hang on to Dalot for at least another season and had rebuffed interest from other clubs.

The 19-year-old, who is a natural right-back but can also play on the left, has been followed extensively by United in recent months as they look for a long-term solution in their defensive ranks. Porto are understood to have turned down bids below Dalot's release clause past year. A strong tackler, his bundles of energy allow him to run up and down right flank tirelessly.
