Russian Federation agreed with Israel on the Golan

He told Russia Today in an interview aired on Thursday that he favoured negotiations with the Syrian Democratic Forces, a Kurdish-led outfit supported by the US-led coalition.

In an exclusive interview shared in part Wednesday by Russian government-run news channel RT, Assad said he was unmoved by Trump's words, which were followed by USA -led airstrikes against Syrian government sites suspected of being involved in the production of chemical weapons.

In the interview with RT, the Russian state's worldwide broadcaster, Assad raised the prospect of conflict with US forces if they do not leave Syria.

The Israeli official said he spoke with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo over the weekend and expressed his gratitude for the determined stance the US administration has adopted against the nuclear agreement with Iran and against Iranian aggression in the region.

Though he did not mention Iran specifically, Lavrov said that only the Syrian regime should field military forces in the country's southern border areas, Reuters reported citing the state-operated RIA news agency.

"We were close to having direct conflict between the Russian forces and the American forces". Iraq is no exception, and Syria is no exception. "We invited the Russians, we could have invited the Iranians", he said. But large patches of territory remain beyond his control, including the expansive region north of the Euphrates River that is administered by the Syrian Kurds. "People don't accept foreigners in this region anymore".

This area is part of the so-called ceasefire zone, which had been agreed upon by Jordan, Russia, and the United States in 2017.

Israel and Iran have been at loggerheads since US President Donald Trump controversially backed out of the Iranian nuclear earlier this month.

"The majority of the people who were against the the different liberated areas, actually in their hearts they are with the government", Assad said.

The attack triggered U.S., French and British missile strikes against what they called chemical weapons targets, the first co-ordinated Western strikes against Assad's government of the war.

Iran-backed Shi'ite militias, often spearheaded by Lebanon's Hezbollah, have played a critical role fighting in support of Assad.

On Monday last week, Iran rejected remarks made by Russia's President Vladimir Putin suggesting that foreign countries should be withdrawn from the Syria following a political settlement interpreted to be referring to Iran, as well as American and Turkish forces.

Syria Direct sent a request for comment to the Tiger Forces, an elite unit of Syrian army soldiers that reportedly deployed to Daraa last week, on troop mobilizations and Wednesday's rebel attack but did not receive a reply by the time of publication. He said that Syria's air defenses were now much stronger than before thanks to Russian Federation.
