Iwobi scores but England beat Nigeria 2-1 in World Cup warm-up

Overall, it was a good test for England, who looked sharp early on but faded after a number of personnel changes, with nearly all the substitutes failing to make much of an impression during their cameo appearances.

Sterling had apologised to his team-mates after Southgate laid down the law but that wasn't his only issue since he joined up with England as the 23-year-old was forced to defend his new tattoo of an M16 assault rifle.

"Me and Dele we speak here and then so if I do get a chance to give him a little nudge and say something I might do because I know he will take it lightly anyway".

He's also found himself back in Southgate's England squad, although there is plenty of competition for places at the back, with Harry Maguire also an option for the Three Lions.

Lingard was unable to connect to a Tripper ball from the right and after a superb save from Uzoho to deny Sterling, who was again in on goal on 38 minutes but fired over - the Manchester City man set up Kane for England's second.

'Some slightly better decision making or quality and we would have scored more'.

On his first England appearance since October, Cahill headed in the opener in the seventh minute from Kieran Trippier's corner in front of 70,000 fans.

"Today, we played Ighalo and he was wonderful upfront with his style of play".

Gareth Southgate's side impressed in the first half against a sluggish Super Eagles team who face Argentina, Iceland and Croatia in Group D later this month. "I thought we used the ball well and were a threat going forward", said Southgate.

The game is being played at Wembley, shown on ITV, and people on social media are going insane over their gorgeous design.

Overall the match was a real positive for England, but the second-half display shows Southgate still has work to do if his team are to make an impact in Russian Federation. We didn't always find them, didn't always see them, but there was a lot of unselfish one and two-touch play and that really pleased me.

"Nevertheless, Raheem has been fantastic with it all, he manages that situation very, very well".

How far do you think England can go in Russian Federation? Now he's at the top level, so everybody expects so much from him.

"The most important thing is we won the game, we started strong and now to build on to the next game".

England play their final warm-up game against Costa Rica at Elland Road, Leeds on Thursday, 7 June. But the visitors made their changes in the second-half and made a game of it.
