Hailee Steinfeld Meets Bumblebee in First Trailer for 'Transformers' Spinoff

Paramount has released the first teaser trailer for Bumblebee, offering a surprisingly healthy assortment of emotion to go along with the Transformer franchise's trademark reliance on giant robot action. Whether we get no new trailers or all the new trailers, we always want you to tune in and talk about the biggest pop culture stories of the day.

Unlike in the prior films, which have seen him take the shape of a modern Chevrolet Camaro, Bumblebee will here assume his original, old-school Volkswagen Beetle form, which (like the amusing Rick Astley gag) is in keeping with the vintage vibe.

'A driver don't pick the auto, the vehicle pick the driver, it's a mystical bond between man and machine, ' intones a voiceover, quoting the words of Uncle Bobby the used auto dealer from the first Transformers film.

Also starring in the film are Jorge Lendeborg Jr, John Ortiz, Jason Drucker, Pamela Adlon and Stephen Schneider. The film appears to be centred on the relationship between Charlie and Bumblebee.

On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee the Autobot seeks refuge in a junkyard in a small California beach town.

The trailer leads with Charlie (Steinfeld) finding a yellow VW Beetle in a junkyard as a familiar quote echoes, reminding us that the driver doesn't pick the vehicle; the auto picks the driver.

Bumblebee is the live-action debut from Travis Knight, founder of Laika Studios and director of the charming Kubo And The Two Strings. We'll find out whether Bumblebee is the start of that when it hits United Kingdom cinemas on 21 December.
