Lionel Messi urges Antoine Griezmann to join Barcelona

The Atletico Madrid superstar is now hesitant to join Barcelona, who hold a long-standing interest in securing his services.

"We have already seen other players signing for Barcelona and not reaching the levels they were used to at other teams because there is a really top-level player making the difference at Barcelona".

Messi was asked about the speculation and admitted the world's best footballers will always be welcome at Barcelona; he also said he believes he would link up well with the France worldwide on the field, per Mundo Deportivo (h/t Goal). "He is going through an exceptional time in his career".

The France global is available for €100 million (£88m) due to a release clause in his deal with Atletico, and Barcelona are at the front of the queue to sign the striker.

The player continues to remain quiet but has said that he will officially announce a decision on his future before the World Cup starts.

Griezmann's performances this past season were eye catching as well, despite talks of him not being in the right state of mind after his move to Manchester United fell through last summer.

"He is clearly a great player", Messi said when asked about the Atletico Madrid striker, although he said he was "not 100 per cent sure" if the French striker would make the move to Catalonia.

It was thought that Griezmann would complete a €100m move to Camp Nou this summer, with Barça tipped to trigger his buyout clause and the player expected to jump at the opportunity.
