Leimome Cheeks accused of transporting children in cages

After the video hit the web, police announced on Facebook that they had arrested 62-year-old Leimome Cheeks and charged her with two counts of child endangerment.

Leimome Cheeks, 62, was taken into custody after a passerby filmed the moment her two grandchildren crawled from the cramped cages in the trunk of her auto, local station WREG reported.

The video was taken on Elvis Presley Boulevard near Graceland.

Neighbors vouched for Cheeks and said they did not think she intentionally did anything wrong.

In the video, a child is seen climbing out of the trunk of the vehicle from the kennel, according to Cleveland 19 News.

Skylarr Blake, Cheeks' neighbor, told WATN that Cheeks was a "nice lady" and that he couldn't "see her doing that". She's such a nice lady.

Leimome Cheeks, 62, allegedly placed her two grandchildren in kennels and drove them around for at least 40 minutes in temperatures as high as 95 degrees, according to police.

A woman has been caught unlocking two children from pet kennels inside the back of her vehicle.

A concerned citizen shot the video and forwarded it to the police.

Neighbors say Cheeks just bought two German shepherd puppies, which is why the kennels are in the back of her truck.

Mrs Cheeks neighbours' expressed their horror at the incident, with residents calling the grandmother a woman of strong faith. Johnson said the children were not in the custody of the Department of Children's Services, but the staff is still "investigating the situation".

Cheeks is scheduled to appear in court Monday morning. Police said the vehicle was not air conditioned.
