Grozny's hotel celebrates Mohamed Salah's birthday

Mohamed Salah is set to feature in Egypt's second World Cup game against hosts Russian Federation on Tuesday.

Head coach Hector Cuper said after the loss, which came when Jose Gimenez headed in a late victor from a free-kick, that Egypt had "wanted to avoid any risks" in their opening Group A match.

Salah, who is still recovering from a shoulder injury was benched on Friday as the North Africans failed to start their first World Cup since 1990 with a win.

Speaking after the Uruguay game, Egypt head coach Hector Cuper said: "Mo Salah is an extremely important player for us, nobody can deny that, but you need to have a good team, and we have a good team. The game will put great pressure on the players, but we cannot question the referees' decisions or accuse them of being biased towards Russia", Leheta said. "He did not play today because we wanted to avoid risk or danger but I think that he will be fine for the next match", said the coach.

But Salah at least he can take comfort in a 100-kilogramme (60 pound) birthday cake he was confronted with on his 26th birthday on Friday.

Salah smiled and hugged his team mates as they sang "Happy Birthday" in English and Arabic before blowing out the candles and heading to his room.

The brief celebration took place upon the team's arrival back in their Grozny hotel after their flight from Yekaterinburg, where they played Uruguay.

A video clip showed a cake coated in the colors of the Egyptian and Chechnya flags sitting on a table in the team's hotel lobby.

Perched atop the cake was what appeared to be a replica of the golden boot won by Salah as the Premier League's top scorer this season.
