NBA Draft rumors: Michael Porter Jr. could go top 5

While all reports since then indicate it's not that big a deal, Porter nonetheless a player teams will evaluate with a higher level of scrutiny.

Porter, who will turn 20 on June 29, missed nearly his entire freshman season at Mizzou because of a back injury that required him to have microdiscectomy surgery on his L3 and L4 spinal disks. According to ESPN, select teams will still send representatives to Chicago to meet with Porter on Friday. Teams will be on hand for medical evaluations Friday afternoon.

The NBA annually takes chances on talented players with legit concerns but if Porter slides in the draft, it will be because of injury concerns and not anything related to his character. One team that's reportedly showing some serious interest in him is the Kings, who pick all the way up at No. 2.

The prevailing thought is that unless National Basketball Association team doctors get access to Porter directly, he may see his draft stock plummet. Porter was cleared to play in March and participated in two games for Missouri, shooting 9-for-29 from the field.

The workout is planned to be rescheduled, but there's no way to tell how another injury will impact Porter's stock. "But a conservative doctor could still [be concerned about] what might happen down the road".
