How does Kawhi Leonard's situation affect LeBron James?

How does Kawhi Leonard's situation affect LeBron James?

James can still opt into the past year of his contract which is worth $35.6 million - he has until June 29 to do so but the expectation is that he'll choose against it and become an unrestricted free agent on July 1st.

Assuming Leonard is fully recovered from the leg injury that forced him to miss nearly all of last season, he might be the flawless teammate to play alongside LeBron James.

The Clippers have more to offer than the Lakers.

A new report suggests that the San Antonio Spurs won't trade Kawhi Leonard unless he's going out east. Would they trade Hayward or Irving if Leonard guaranteed he'd re-sign? She reported further regarding the Lakers and Clippers both being concerned about Leonard's right quad injury, which limited him to nine games this past season and is the root of his frayed relationship with the Spurs.

It's also worth noting that the Spurs could take their time with this process and trade Leonard after the draft or even after the season starts. And the Philadelphia 76ers can put together a great one as well.

James and Leonard being on the same team does seem a possibility.

Now, he apparently wishes to be traded, and the speculation regarding where he might end up is at a fever pitch.

"Neither the Lakers nor Clippers have had trade discussions with the Spurs, as both teams have concerns about the severity of Leonard's injury", Ganguli wrote.

Larry Nance and young Cedi Osman have drawn a lot of trade interest, according to Pluto.

The Spurs may want Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, Kyle Kuzma, and Josh Hart - as well as the Lakers' first-round pick (which came from the Cavs).

The Cavs have the No. 8 pick in this year's draft, as well as the contracts of Kevin Love ($22.6 million this season, $24.1 million next) and former Spur George Hill ($20 million; $19 million). Maybe San Antonio would take a lesser package in return to send Leonard to the East and not help a rival like the Lakers.
