Melania Trump dons 'I really don't care, do u?' jacket

First Lady Melania Trump visited a Texas detention center Thursday to check in on immigrant children who have been separated from their parents at the U.S. -Mexico border.

First lady Melania Trump arrived in Texas Thursday morning for a surprise visit to children being held at the border by her husband's administration.

This is now a very sensitive topic to many Americans and the fact that Melania wore this jacket to meet with those immigrant children who have been separated from their parents, due to Donald Trump's policies, is very offensive.

US First Lady Melania Trump said she wanted to see for herself what efforts are being made to resolve the family separation crisis on the US border.

According to a statement from the first lady's spokesperson Stephanie Grisham, there's "no hidden message" behind Trump's wardrobe choice. She put the jacket back on as she disembarked from her plane back at Joint Base Andrews near Washington, D.C.

That's why it seemed odd that she was wearing a jacket that said in large white letters "I really don't care". It is. She is the first lady of the United States.

"It is my hope that Members of Congress will finally reach across the aisle and work together to solve this problem with common sense immigration reform that secures our borders and keeps families together", she added.

During her visit today, Trump said she was "looking forward to meeting the children".

Social media is in disbelief. "(Much like her high heels past year.)", Grisham said. There was her distance from Trump in the wake of the stories her husband had an affair with a porn star.

Or maybe it was a different message to the media - "I really don't care what you think [of me]". It's more like a dog whistle for Trump's anti-immigrant supporters: "I'm publicly supporting immigrants, but you really know I don't care".

On the other hand, it's rare for a first lady to wear an item of clothing that so directly contradicts her stated intentions.

Mrs Trump sat alongside Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar at a table at Upbring New Hope Children's Center and heard caregivers explain how the children are well treated.

As for this visit, Trump was guided around by the Upbring CEO, Dr. Kirk Senske, who told the First Lady: "We're honored to show you our shelter".
