The inflatable was propped up during protests at Trump's rallies in Arizona during the election campaign. Most of the children had been separated from their families. "I am here to support you and help any way I can". She said Melania Trump entering the facility from the back made her look like a coward.

She also visited a nursery where nine infants and toddlers - four of whom were there with their teenaged mothers - played and napped.

Protesters were waiting outside a Phoenix-area shelter for migrant children when the First Lady arrived.

The first lady on Thursday will be visiting the Southwest Key Campbell, a Health and Human Services facility where immigrant children are being housed.

More than 2,300 children have been separated from their parents at the border in recent weeks and some were placed in government-contracted shelters hundreds of miles away from their parents.

She's expected to participate in a roundtable with staff and medical service Thursday and tour a game room, day care and classroom for younger kids.

Despite the camera-ready nature of the events, some of the images were bleak: a cell block, doors open at the time, where minors are sorted into "Families", "Males" and "Processed" and "Unprocessed".

The story seemed to shock Mrs. Trump.

"I want to thank you for all your hard work", she told border and immigration officials at a Customs and Border Patrol facility in Tucson, Arizona.

The sold-out, controversial jacket from Zara that Melania Trump wore to visit immigrant children in Texas last week is now being auctioned off on eBay.

One day earlier, a "compromise" bill created to put a definitive end to family separations failed in Congress, embarrassing the president. "Do u?" the 48-year-old mother of one and former model, herself an immigrant from Slovenia, played safe in white trousers and a black top.

Chief patrol agent Rodolfo Karisch showed Trump a photo of a six-year-old boy crossing the desert with a coke bottle and a note. Her spokeswoman said it was simply "a jacket" with "no hidden message".

Melania Trump is headed toward the southern USA border for the second time in a week. Her spokeswoman would not immediately confirm her destination, citing security concerns.

During the trip to McAllen, the first lady's choice of a jacket emblazoned with the words, "I REALLY DON'T CARE, DO U?" prompted controversy and speculation about its meaning.

A few protesters screamed from a nearby balcony that overlooked the compound's playground as Mrs. Trump's retinue shifted buildings. President Donald Trump undercut that statement, tweeting it was about his wife not caring about "fake news".

First lady Melania Trump makes another visit to the southwest border to visit a migrant detention center. An official traveling with Mrs. Trump said there were 121 children there and their average stay was 48 days. She also met with children at one of the facilities.
